OralSense: Versatile, Accurate Oral Sensing with Customizable Magnets

Abstract

The mouth is one of the most expressive yet least instrumented parts of the body. Tongue and jaw movements carry rich signals for silent speech, assistive interaction, and health monitoring — but capturing them is hard: cameras cannot see inside the mouth, and intra-oral electronics raise comfort, power, and safety concerns.

OralSense enables versatile, accurate oral sensing using small customizable passive magnets. Because the magnets need no battery or electronics and magnetic fields pass freely through tissue, OralSense captures fine-grained oral movements unobtrusively, opening a practical path to in-mouth interaction and health sensing.
